Where has the summer gone? It has been an incredibly hot summer here with very little rain and quite a few bush fires - some of which were not far away from our property, so we have been on high alert at times. I have had a break from painting due to christmas holidays and an injury in my left arm. I have bursitis in my shoulder and tennis elbow both in my left arm and I am totally left handed and of course it is very painful to paint and have to rest it. Needless to say it has been very frustrating and I have tried all kinds of treatment but I think rest and gentle exercises are the best options. It has improved a little and I can now paint about 30 minutes a day. I have been working on a large 2m long painting which was commissioned from a client in Europe - a family portrait and If I get permission I will post a series of photos of the process.
I hope you and all your family have a lovely christmas with plenty of sunshine! I Just thought I would share this link to an editorial in Luxe Immo Magazine, fine arts and high end real estate on the French Riveria. The article about my work was published in 2012. Luxe Immo
In 2008 my work was nominated for the Sovereign Art Prize for Asia, there is also a Sovereign Art Prize for Europe and now for Africa. Out of 1100 entrants nominated, 30 finalists were selected and my painting "Dali Is Not So Crazy" was selected. Sothebys auctioned the paintings in Hong Kong and the money raised goes to a children's charity based in Asia. The international business man behind the art prize Howard Bilton makes wine in Portugal and the painting of a finalist each year is selected to be the label of a particular vintage. My painting was selected for this white wine "Sonhador 2011" Alvarinho which is sold in Europe - I believe you can also buy it in Australia but I am not sure where from. It is a lovely lunch time white wine, dry with a soft fruit finish.
I have just been informed that the head curator has selected my work again to be featured on the Saatchi Gallery online homepage collection - great news. Saatchi Gallery have been selling my work to art collectors in Europe. Saatchi Gallery Online
The daughter of a very close friend of mine was married in our garden and and my art studio last saturday. It was a perfect day and a beautiful wedding. The food was fabulous and the 90 guests had a wonderful time - they even took their shoes off whilst having a glass of bubbly & canapés on the lawn after the ceremony. I had to clear out my art studio which was a bit of a job as you seem to collect so much "stuff" along the way, I am just getting back to normal now and gradually putting my studio back together!
One of my paintings has been selected to feature in the current surrealism collection at the Saatchi Gallery online in London - here is the link. Saatchi Gallery is very well known Art Gallery that curates painting collections for art collectors all over the world. Saatchi Gallery Online
Have just completed this painting oil on board
As I am spending more time by the coast I am finding it very inspirational for painting and have started painting a few small seascapes which I am selling on ebay
I recently did a landscape painting workshop with well know landscape painter Colley Whisson to refresh my skills and previous training. I enjoyed the workshop and it was great to meet Colley - I have been doing a few small seascapes for my own enjoyment as I now spend a lot of time near the coast - I will post a few pics of these in a later post.
The Elder Wing of the stunning Art Gallery Of South Australia was turning into a 60m catwalk on saturday 7th September for the Honda Night of Fashion. My daughter Emily Wake (an international fashion model) was asked to participate - so the pics are a little biased! Unfortunately I could not be there as I was in sydney for my art exhibition. This is the first time the art gallery and fashion have teamed up and the event was a huge success.

Thought I would share some pics of Salvador Dalis boat in Spain - Dali has been very influential in my work.
In 2011 I also went to the Dali museum - was disappointed that there were very few original paintings there - I think they they must be in museums such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
In 2011 I was very fortunate to travel to France and visited Monet`s Garden, and as I have just been to the Monet exhibition in Melbourne I thought I would post up a few pics.
